Keeping Needy Students in School

Keeping Needy Students in School

Like many bright students from humble beginnings, Brandon Salmon Simih, a class eight candidate at Goseta Boy’s High School, Kitale had dropped out of school at the beginning of the second term due to lack of fees. His father Peterson Barasa, a carpenter, could no longer afford to keep the son in school citing limited business opportunities

“My carpentry work has over the years paid Brandon’s fees but in 2019, getting work has been very difficult. I tried to raise the fee balance of Ksh 23,500 but it was not possible. The school was strict not to admit any candidate with fees balance. What could I do? Brandon had to study from home and was only allowed to return to school in the third term to sit for exams,” Brandon’s father explained

When the Change a Life Initiative learned about Brandon’s plight in early July 2019, the Father was struggling to pay for a library at a local school where the son could revise for the upcoming class eight exams. Raising the library fee was still a challenge to him

The Change a Life Initiative moved with speed and within a week, it paid the Ksh 23,500 fees balance and got Brandon back to class. We wish him the very best as he prepares to sit for the class eight exams and success in all his endeavours
