Caring for Children at the Kitale Women’s Prison
The Change a Life Initiative visited the Kitale Women’s Prison to brighten the lives of children under four years living in prison with their mothers. The initiative supports the children with basic needs such as clothes, beddings, food, baby care items like diapers, wipes and baby jelly, and of course, toys to enable them to have some fun and enjoy their childhood
It was a memorable day for the children and their mothers, as well as other inmates, all who were gifted in one way or the other. All mothers received diapers, wipes, baby oil, toys, baby clothes and shoes
We welcome you. We are grateful. You are a blessing to us and our children. You have sacrificed for us. You have shown us love. When you visit we rejoice because not often do we get visited by our loved ones,” one of the inmates narrated
The bonding sessions over snacks and refreshment was full of sharing and encouragement, especially for the mothers who have to care for their little ones
Of concern was equipping the children holding room with beds and beddings, early educational materials and toys as this is where they keep themselves busy and rest during the day
