Double Breakthrough as Well-wishers Sponsor Samuels Surgery and Primary School Fee
It had been years of battling with a mouth tumour when 14-year-old Samuel Khaemba got a breakthrough in 2019 through a successful surgery in Spain
Hailing from a modest background in Bungoma County, Samuel’s family could not afford the high-cost surgery expenses but continued hoping for a miracle
In late 2018, his case was found by Miss Tourism Bungoma – Joyce Munyefu, who went to extraordinary length to cater for his initial medical check-up. The case was later escalated to Dr. Mohamud Said, a surgeon by profession with roots in Bungoma and the Governor of the Kenya Red Cross Society, alongside Ms. Noellah Musundi – the CEO of Namu Communications Ltd
Dr. Said made quick arrangements with his counterparts in Spain for free surgery supported by the Pedro Cavadas Foundation. All we were required of was to fundraise for Samuel’s air ticket and that of his caretaker. We sought assistance from the Western Union WhatsApp Group that unites professionals from Western Kenya
Their response was swift, united by a common commitment of ensuring Samuel’s successful travel to Spain, treatment and safe return home
On February 8th 2019, Samuel arrived in Spain and later underwent successful surgery. He returned home on March 23rd 2019, met with stun, excitement and gratitude by his family, friends and the online Western Union WhatsApp Group
Another Miracle
A second breakthrough happened in May 2019 exactly when Samuel was anxiously waiting to begin School at St. Stephen’s Primary, a private school in Bungoma. We had been knocking doors to find a well-wisher to support his school fee when Mr. Clifford Machoka, the Head of Corporate Affairs at Nation Media Group committed to cater for Samuel’s entire Primary School fee
